Kalamalika is the cultural wing of SRC. It nurtures the aesthetic talents of students invariable of their class and year of study. Kalamalika promotes Classical Music- Vocal and Instrumental, Western Music, Oratorical and Debating Skills, Painting, Dramatics, Craft work, etc. Every year the university sponsors talented students of SRC to take part in state and national level competitions. To name a few, VIT, NIT, Saarang, Kuruksastra, GCT, etc. are a few institutions where SRC, SASTRA regularly wins the trophy. The university also conducts various activities and competitions for the students. Besides tuning the in house talents, Kalamalika also conducts various programmes for the school children. Every year Thiruppavai and Thiruvempavai Recitation competition, Inter-School competitions are conducted to identify the talents of young mind.

PODHIGAI THAMIZH MANDRAM
The language Tamil has been one of the most profound languages of the world from time immortal. Every year, as the members of “Podhigai Thamizh Mandram” of SRC, we are privileged to give this language the utmost credits it deserves. With a small token of happiness, this year’s endeavor of “Podhigai Thamizh Mandram” started with the inaugural meet at Srinivasa Sastri Hall, SRC with the presence of Mr. Panasai Swaminathan, a man who has done many remarkable services to the language and also a tamil teacher by profession. Then, we started our quest to find new talents and we successfully conducted “Talent hunt” competitions to test the oratorical and poetic skills of our students. The team then took over the legacy of a yester year art form “VilluPaatu” to the stage of “Festember 2k17” (An inter college cultural fest conducted by NIT – Trichy) and bagged third prize along with the praises of the chief guest. The month of February 2018 was a milestone in the journey of the “Podhigai Thamizh Mandram” as the students went to attend the “Riviera 2k18” at VIT, Vellore and bagged prizes in all the events they participated. The team made the name of SRC fly high in such a popular national level cultural fest. Special mention was given to Karthik S, Sandhya R, and Prakash S for their remarkable performances. Following a victorious event, our team went on to participate in “Kuruksastra 2k18”, one of the most anticipated cultural fest of Tamilnadu held by SASTRA Deemed to be University, Tanjore.
The drama team won the first prize among 13 teams from various places of the state. The judges were all in praise of the team for their heart wrenching performance. Apart from that, the team won prizes in 4 other tamil events including “Kavithoppu”, “sorpor” and “Thamizattam”. Karthik S and Sandhya also received special mention from the judges for a monoacting event called “Raajapaat”. The team then organized three events for “Theta 2k18” at SRC campus, namely “Pena Munaiyil Pesu”, ”Kalam”, “Solli Adicha Gilli” to encourage the talents of tamil oration, Poetry and creative writing, humour and various qualities. The drama “Vettrumai Azhagu” which won first prize in Kuruksastra 2k18 was staged in the college auditorium with a huge crowd that brought many appreciations and acknowledgements from staffs and students as well. The team “Mugamozhi” performed mime, which was sign of tribute to the Indian Army was also staged and well appreciated. Apart from these events, the team of “Podhigai Thamizh Mandram” will have a constructive talk session called “Vatta Mejai Maanaadu” which would be held based on the works of renowned and also some underrated tamil poets. Thus, we hope, the upcoming year would be even more fascinating and provide us with new learning opportunities.

A ravishing tamil debate was held at the event by the members of the club. Then, we started our quest to find new talents and we successfully conducted “Talent hunt” competitions to test the oratorical and poetic skills of our students.
Worshipping the Supreme God through means of Nadam which includes vocals, instruments etc is Naadopasana. The sole aim of Naadopasana is to promote Carnatic Music, Namasankeerthanam and slokas among interested students of our college which in turn helps to improve their wisdom and all round personality. Sri Thyagaraja’s Ganaraga Pancharatna kritis was the first performance after Naadopasana under Kalamalika was formed. It was sung by students of SRC on 13th February 2018 at Sastra SRC, Kumbakonam. Totally 9 students participated in this event in which Shodasakshari Vidya from III MCS, Ramgopal from III EEE, Chandrasekar from III EEE, Mugunth from II EEE, Preetha from II PCS, Karthikeyan from IV EEE and Kavri Selvi from I BCA were the main lead singers and Anantharam from II ECS and Venkatachalam from I MCS supported them on the instruments.
Then Namasankeerthanam was organized by Naadopasana team on 1st March 2018 (MasiMagam) as a tribute to Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal. Many students eagerly participated in Namasankeerthanam in which Ramgopal of III EEE, Chandrasekar from III EEE, Karthikeyan IV EEE, Shodasakshari Vidya III MCS, Preetha from II PCS, Janani II MSc Shiva from II ECE, Nandhini III MCS were the lead singers accompanied by Anandaram II ECS and Adwaith I EEE on Mridangam and Kumaresh I ECE on the keys.
A team of 7 students – K. Venkatesh (III BCA), S. Karthikeyan (III EEE), T. Chandrasekar (III EEE). T. Ramgopal (II EEE), K. Preethi (V M. A. B. Ed.) from SASTRA University, Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre and two instrumentalists have participated in Sankara TV’s Reality Show ‘Bhajan Samraat’ and after competing participants from all over India at the semifinal’s level. They had their audition at Trichy and got selected to quarter finals during May 2016. Then the team participated at Quarter finals held at Bangalore. They have secured the Eighth place among the Sixty teams participated all over India. Finally, the team participated at the semifinals held at Adhi chunchunagiri khetra near Bangalore during July ‘16 and competed with 8 other teams and they were positioned as fifth and received good comments from the panel of judges.
