The department, established in 2002 to conduct engineering chemistry class, has been expanded to include the following programmes

1. B.Sc. Biochemistry with Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology
2. M.Sc. Biochemistry
3. M.Sc. Microbiology
4. Ph.D. Chemistry
5. Ph.D. Biochemistry

Objectives

The programme aims to impart a thorough knowledge of the principle and theories pertaining to the different areas of Biochemistry and Microbiology such as Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Cell signalling, Microbial Cellular Communication, Immunology, Immuno-histochemistry, Fermentation Technology and Cancer Biology. In addition, the programmes aim at imparting academic excellence, personality development, systematic and disciplined work and scientific temper among students to face the challanges in the field of Biosciences. Students are regularly encouraged to update their practical skills with hands on experience in the state-of-the-art laboratories.

Faculty

The faculty is headed by a senior professor who is having more than 40 years of experience in teaching and research. The Department has well qualified and experienced teachers, most of them are doctorates in the subjects with varied specializations and are dedicated to the cause of higher education. They have contributed more than 50 research papers in peer reviewed National and International Journals.

Genechem

The Association of the department of Chemistry and Biosciences organizes special lectures, symposium, seminars, workshops, quiz programmes and various competitions. It creates an excellent opportunity for the students to bring out the hidden talents, diverse knowledge and research findings in the leading issues in the field of life sciences.
