Digital Library

"Million books on the 'Web'" is the slogan with which the Digital Library has taken its roots from. Under the Indo-US Science & Technology Collaboration programme SASTRA signed a MoU with Carnegie Mellon University, USA and has established a scanning centre at Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre. All old books, some of which are treasure troves, available in various libraries such as Saraswathi Mahal, Thanjavur, Gopal Rao Library, Kumbakonam are scanned and stored. This project, when complete, will provide readers with information on the web.

Evaluation System

SASTRA is following Semester pattern for all the courses. Credit based system of study that matches established standards is adopted. Out of a total of 100 marks allotted for each subject, 50 marks are allotted for continuous Internal Assessment (with components of periodical tests/seminars/quiz/assignments) and 50 marks for the End Semester Examination. It is a notable feature that summer coaching classes are being conducted to offer special coaching for the weak students for 3 weeks. Students, who have arrears in Odd/Even semester Examinations, can take up examinations for those subjects in Summer Term Examinations, after undergoing the special coaching.

Extra Curricular Activities

Students actively participate in various cultural festivals organized by colleges at the national level. The management of SASTRA strongly encourages students to participate in various competitions and offers cash incentives to all participants. SRC Organizing Competitions for School / College Students

Inter School Students Cultural Festival is being conducted every year at SRC, to motivate and encourage school students improve their skills in extra curricular activities. Various competitions like Oratorical contests in English and Tamil, Quiz, Carnatic Vocal Music, instrumental music and Cricket tournament are conducted for a school students. A cash award of Rs.2000 is given to the winner and Rs.1000 to the runner in each competition. In addition to these individual prizes, a special prize of

Rs.5000 is awarded to the school of the best performer in Tamil & English Oratorical and Quiz competitions and the school winning Cricket match, for the development of the school library/department of physical education. SASTRA has instituted Rt. Hon'ble Shri V.S. Srinivasa Sastri Gold Medal for English Oratorical competition and Mahamahopadhyaya Dr. U.V.Swaminatha Iyer Gold Medal for Tamil Oratorical competition, to honour the great sons of this soil,

Shri V.S. Srinivasa Sastri and Dr. U.V.Swaminatha Iyer. These Intercollegiate Oratorical competitions are held at the Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre every year and the winner of the each competition is given a gold medal of one sovereign.

NSS Activities

Three units of NSS function at SRC with three in-house programme officers and 300 student volunteers' (Boys and Girls). Service activities of NSS include cleaning temples, blood donation, spreading health care awareness, tree plantation programmes, First Aid Training Camps and Disaster Management.

NCC Training

The Cadets of Senior Division and Senior Wing of NCC, SRC, SASTRA affiliated to 8(TN) BN NCC. Kumbakonam of Trichy Rock fort group are being trained with military and non-military subjects such as drill, weapon training, field craft, battle craft, map reading, administration of military organizations etc., through parade classes, annual training camps and cadre classes. The training ends with NCC certificate examinations. Also the cadets are involved in various social service activities like blood donation, tree plantation, traffic control and social awareness programs during their 2 years of tenure.

Leo Club of Sastra

This club affiliated to the Lions club of Kudanthai Mahamaham, does service activities such as organisation of Blood donation and Eye donation camp, Tree plantation, AIDS, Leprosy and other health awareness programmes. NSS unit of SRC and Leo club of SASTRA played a vital role in managing the crowd during Mahamaham 2004. The students were also involved in first aid relief activity during the Fire accident in which 100 children lost their lives and Tsunami rescue activity at Poompuhar and Nagapattinam.

Rotaract Club of Sastra

Affiliated to Rotary club of Kumbakonam Mid-Town, the activities of the club are classified under four major heads viz., club service, community service, vocational service and International service.

Master Mind Quiz Club

The quiz club at SRC named as 'Master Mind' quiz club is functioning with the objective of improving general knowledge/encouraging and developing the habit of reading/creating competitive spirit among the students. Frequent quiz competitions are being organized by the club.
